Ethics in Graphic Design

As a graphic designer there are certain ways to conduct yourself whether dealing with clients or other designers.  When dealing with clients don’t over promise, this will save your image later. When you over promise and fail, the client might never forgive you easily, the trick is to under promise and over deliver. This way you surprise them and they will be happy with you. Be Honest Don’t lie to be an expert in a field you don’t qualify , avoid being greedy and wait for the appropriate opportunity. When work which is not your scope comes your way, don’t take it and figure out later  by googling and you tubing; always link it to a professional and get finders fee instead. It’s more worth, will save the client time and money and even your image Be Proactive Always communicate about your progress, don’t keep silent and all of a sudden give a proposal, it’s not magic involve your client all the way. Keep your work transparent as possible. The client should also be cooperative

Minimalism vs dADaiSm

Minimalism is the principle of less is more while dadaism is no rules at all. I don’t advocate for one principle over the other, choose what will work best for your project. Let’s say you are designing road signs, dadaism is definitely not the way to go, if its an artistic poster that needs to express some spirit then minimalism won’t do the best for the job. It’s always wise to choose what fits your project, pa-harps you don’t need to stick to the two principles alone you might try so much on your own even merging the two. History repeats itself and I have observed from Meggs Parvis book: “ History of Graphic Design“ that whenever there is an explosion(innovation) it’s highly embraced until it’s overused, then a relief comes by to save Graphic Design. In our time Minimalism has really been on the forefront and this is due to plethora of information loaded every where, so companies need smooth and quick ways to get to their audience. Screens have grown smaller, therefore there is

Does Drawing Make You a Better Graphic Designer?

Not necessarily, Graphic Design involves much thinking and imagination, the better thinker you are the better designer you become. After collecting a brief, do concept mapping( Mind Mapping ) then some quick sketches. Here the drawing plays a big role in saving time and resources. When you rush to design in Illustrator or whatever software, chances are it might not be the best visual solution for the brief and therefore the process becomes iterative and tedious. Its more tedious to design on the computer than with pencil and paper! Drawing has special advantages that you cannot ignore. It is quick ➹➹   compared to the very fast computer 8th Generation i7. Drawing captures imagination, concepts at the speed of thought does not require power and can be achieved anywhere. A pen and a blank paper are the simplest User Interface with very little distraction that's why you become more creative and productive than when on a software. Drawing is like recording all the concepts you co

What to Charge for Graphic Designs?

This normally depends on the type of work you are dealing with, the organization and the time-frame . For a proper design say a logo, then a good research has to be done on the target audience, if the company can afford it then a research agency can be consulted to do the  work. Charging also depends on the worth of the designer, more effort and time put to learn various techniques deserve more pay. My process for charging is pretty simple, for any advice or ideas I offer the client, there is a certain percentage. It’s simple to call it the consultation fee. After filling a design brief a down payment of 50% of the total amount should be paid. Some companies  I charge per concept(sketches) then a final charge for the final result. The down payment is very important to keep the client engaged. Some clients might forget that they have commissioned you some work but when money is involved many remember to follow up on you. It’s hard to know which number of concepts to come up with

Why Should You Do Brand Identity With Me?

Brand Is Not A Logo I don't design logos, I create Identities with character and personalities : my belief is that there is the right way of doing things. Identity is not just the logo, its the visualization of your core brand that's why before designing a logo for a brand, I make sure they have a Vision, Mission, Values and Know who their target market is. Jumping around to please your eyes is not very effective when it comes to communicating your ideals to your audience. Timeless Vs Trends Graphic Design is my profession and Art is my Passion. I never rush to follow trends blindly, history of Graphic Design has proved that trends come and go but also there are timeless concepts which stand the test of time. To give an example is the Coca cola Logo. The only good side of trends is that they can be applied for seasonal promotion materials and work effectively. Trends are good for short term tactics while long term strategy needs a timeless concept. The other good side

Why I do Graphic Design

Genesis I started as an artist , wanted to be a musician since 2007. This was after Cadibury Delite organized an art event where the first rapper will be given an iPod, the second a tee and the third a gift hamper. I could not resist the offer so I wrote lyrics and shared with my friend Ondiko, who agreed to help me with the chorus. When the day came I was the only Form Two student to perform, the crowd cheered me up loudly and felt frightened. I moved to the stage, my legs shaken, requested a beat which I had never heard before: Still by Dr Dre. Words couldnot come out my mouth clearly I felt a failure and left the stage. Guys laughed at me so I had a point to prove and became obsessed in music. During prep time when others were studying for exams, I was busy writing lyrics. I could not stop, with a friend we even started our own Fright Night Fury on Fridays on Fridays evening and we had audience who cheered us. I decided to build my life around music, I bought the post for Insyde

About LOUD'SIGN Studio

Imagination is the key; and am an avid daydreamer. I started this company out of many trials and errors; what has kept me going is the ardent Passion I have for Art and Design. To cut my long story short I started as a musician in Lenana School (2007 : Form Two) where I spent almost all my class hours writing lyrics; they thought I was crazy but I got encouraged by my English teacher. Finishing Lenana School I went to Shang tao Media Arts College (2010) to further my interest in music; I did not finish my higher diploma because I dropped out for a Record Label known as Trakali (2011). The lifestyle of the studio owners did not appease me, I checked out and started a small venture: a game shop where I made a few shillings then decided to get serious and went to Kenya Methodist University  (2013) to do Bachelors of Business Information College. On 2016 I dropped out again to pursue my interests in graphic design. Here I am now am not going to quit this one this is the only way
