About LOUD'SIGN Studio

Imagination is the key; and am an avid daydreamer.

I started this company out of many trials and errors; what has kept me going is the ardent Passion I have for Art and Design. To cut my long story short I started as a musician in Lenana School (2007 : Form Two) where I spent almost all my class hours writing lyrics; they thought I was crazy but I got encouraged by my English teacher. Finishing Lenana School I went to Shang tao Media Arts College (2010) to further my interest in music; I did not finish my higher diploma because I dropped out for a Record Label known as Trakali (2011). The lifestyle of the studio owners did not appease me, I checked out and started a small venture: a game shop where I made a few shillings then decided to get serious and went to Kenya Methodist University (2013) to do Bachelors of Business Information College. On 2016 I dropped out again to pursue my interests in graphic design.

Here I am now am not going to quit this one this is the only way I can mix my fl studio skills, photoshop and illustrator into branding. From still graphics to motion graphics. I can’t stop now, many count on me on this one. So here I introduce to you LOUD'SIGN Studio a venture that will help you to reach out loudly to your people with stillness and movement. In short I do Brand Identity and I can be your Identity Advocate!

Please read my business overview to understand my ideals and philosophies:

Business Model:

Branding Identity is not my hobby its where I depend for my livelihood. I make money by offering Visual Solutions to my clients; a square deal where you pay me and I put my best, more demands from the client means more effort from me which means more price or value of the design.

Brand Identity is my industry and LOUD'SIGN Studio is a one-person business but I also get support from family. Passive Income from Small Ads and talks I give, provide me with some support to get going. I create awareness through selected charity works, people we share values with not just everyone. I as well use blogger to reach out to my audience, I don't need a website, to me social media is more proactive.

Services:

Logo Design - I prefer calling it identity symbol and it starts with a Creative Service Agreement, after paying the down payment which is indicated in the agreement  I send the Logo Design Brief to the client. With the completed Logo Design Brief, I provide Concepts, 3 at a time until my client is happy. Then I proceed with the approved concept and provide the following files at the end: Logo.ai, logo.pdf, logo.jpg and a logo usage manual.
Illustration - Illustrations tell more story since the logo is just a glimpse of your business. Illustrations are good for packaging, t shirts and logo lock ups. They are usually time consuming but very effective. The process here is the same as the former.
Lettering - Am good at hand lettering letter forms to  appease to your audience, hand letters have the human touch and people connect easily with them than basic typography, they are good for gifts merchandise and posters promotions. The process is the same.
Logo Animation + Sound - Logo animation is breathing life to your logo, the advantage is that there are few rules to this, sound also is a unique way to let people know its you. This field am not a pro but I will update you as soon as I get better.

What to Charge for Graphic Designs?

This normally depends on the type of work you are dealing with, the organization and the time-frame . For a proper design say a logo, then a good research has to be done on the target audience, if the company can afford it then a research agency can be consulted to do the  work. Charging also depends on the worth of the designer, more effort and time put to learn various techniques deserve more pay. My process for charging is pretty simple, for any advice or ideas I offer the client, there is a certain percentage. It’s simple to call it the consultation fee. After filling a design brief a down payment of 50% of the total amount should be paid. Some companies  I charge per concept(sketches) then a final charge for the final result. The down payment is very important to keep the client engaged. Some clients might forget that they have commissioned you some work but when money is involved many remember to follow up on you. It’s hard to know which number of concepts to come up with

Does Drawing Make You a Better Graphic Designer?

Not necessarily, Graphic Design involves much thinking and imagination, the better thinker you are the better designer you become. After collecting a brief, do concept mapping( Mind Mapping ) then some quick sketches. Here the drawing plays a big role in saving time and resources. When you rush to design in Illustrator or whatever software, chances are it might not be the best visual solution for the brief and therefore the process becomes iterative and tedious. Its more tedious to design on the computer than with pencil and paper! Drawing has special advantages that you cannot ignore. It is quick ➹➹   compared to the very fast computer 8th Generation i7. Drawing captures imagination, concepts at the speed of thought does not require power and can be achieved anywhere. A pen and a blank paper are the simplest User Interface with very little distraction that's why you become more creative and productive than when on a software. Drawing is like recording all the concepts you co

Ethics in Graphic Design

As a graphic designer there are certain ways to conduct yourself whether dealing with clients or other designers.  When dealing with clients don’t over promise, this will save your image later. When you over promise and fail, the client might never forgive you easily, the trick is to under promise and over deliver. This way you surprise them and they will be happy with you. Be Honest Don’t lie to be an expert in a field you don’t qualify , avoid being greedy and wait for the appropriate opportunity. When work which is not your scope comes your way, don’t take it and figure out later  by googling and you tubing; always link it to a professional and get finders fee instead. It’s more worth, will save the client time and money and even your image Be Proactive Always communicate about your progress, don’t keep silent and all of a sudden give a proposal, it’s not magic involve your client all the way. Keep your work transparent as possible. The client should also be cooperative
